Shunpike’s programs and services encourage and support creative businesses, small arts groups and community-based programs at the local level. Grassroots by design and fundamentally based in local economy and local culture, Shunpike is a model for activating the creative capital of your community, no matter what the resource level. Other cities and counties – large and small – have approached Shunpike to replicate our Storefronts work, fiscal sponsorship services and leadership convenings. While we may not be opening an office across the country anytime soon, we likely have something to offer.
Our storefront activation programs – Storefronts Seattle & Spaceworks Tacoma – bring energy to vacant retail corridors through short-term rentals to arts projects.
Shunpike’s services in fiscal sponsorship and back-office administration nurture emerging creative businesses. Find out how we can support these businesses in your area.
Since 2009, Shunpike has maintained a satellite office in Tacoma, where we work closely with the city and its arts commission to strengthen arts businesses, facilitate community partnerships and support emerging arts leaders.
Shunpike’s Partner Artists and Arts Business Clinic programs are made available through our shared satellite office at Suite 133. In addition, we are developing a new one-year intensive for a peer group cohort of 5-7 emerging projects who will meet monthly for a series of clinic consultations and trainings.
In partnership with the city and the chamber of commerce, Shunpike has helped to launch Spaceworks Tacoma, which activates the downtown streetscape by placing arts displays and temporary arts businesses in otherwise empty retail spaces.
Shunpike facilitated the launch of Tacoma’s Arts Leadership Lab core team, a steering committee of emerging leaders that convene a series of conversations around current issues, strategies and policies within the arts and our relationship to other sectors in Tacoma.
