We’re launching our year-end campaign, in support of our mission to fuel innovation in the arts.

It’s a challenging time out there, to say the least. Our cities, our neighborhood businesses, our community organizations, and our households are all navigating new economic realities. Arts groups are being asked to do more with less – requiring them to be bolder than ever to meet their goals.

Fortunately, there’s something in the water out here in the Puget Sound. The creativity that’s driven the local economy leads an awesome number of arts entrepreneurs to set their sights on new projects. We at Shunpike continue to be inspired by so many arts programs emerging to invigorate neighborhoods, educate young people and stimulate community engagement.

Shunpike exists to support these arts entrepreneurs in their bold endeavors. We currently serve more than 200 arts groups – theatre companies, dance companies, filmmakers, educators, visual arts collectives, literary cohorts and more. We partner with these groups to strengthen their fundraising and day-to-day operations, while also offering strategic guidance that leads them toward their long-term goals. Shunpike helps to maximize the impact of local arts programming – no matter the budget size.

Beyond our work with individual arts groups, Shunpike is taking on our own bold new projects to benefit the larger community – like the Storefronts Seattle program, which provides arts businesses with free, short-term leases on vacant storefronts in several neighborhood retail corridors. Through this program, Shunpike brings together artists, property owners, neighborhood leaders and government agencies – who combine to deliver greater neighborhood vitality and a one-of-a-kind opportunity for arts entrepreneurs.

When you make a gift to Shunpike, you’re investing in the future of our creative community.

For more on Shunpike as the home to creative entrepreneurs, read a recent feature on Shunpike in Entrepreneur Magazine

Seattle’s Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs has selected Shunpike to launch the Artist Space Assistance Program (ASAP), a pilot program in the Pioneer Square and Chinatown-International District neighborhoods designed to provide relocation and placement services for artists and arts organizations seeking affordable studio, live/work, exhibition, performance and/or rehearsal space.

The pilot program is running from mid-October to March 1, 2012. Shunpike will assess artist needs and space opportunities, offer direct services to artists and arts groups and recommend a model for expanding the program to other Seattle neighborhoods. Shunpike envisions involving more than 30 artists and arts groups and a dozen property owners and real estate professionals and offering more in-depth, free placement services to about 10 artists and/or arts groups.
