Matt’s House is a newly created center for people who have lost loved ones to suicide, homicide, or tragic accidents. This center provides a place for therapy, art, and healing. The primary goal of the center is to assist those in grief with the opportunity to carry out an artistic project that helps to work through emotions that come from the violent death of a loved one. The person who is grieving decides what type of art they would like to focus on and the center provides financial, therapeutic, and artistic support. Different projects might focus on playwriting, visual art, compiling and recording a music cd, directing a play, bookmaking, or simply designing a personal journal.

Matt’s House primarily serves survivors, or those who have lost loved ones to violent deaths such as suicide, homicide, or tragic accidents. However, its services also extend to the wider community, exploring how art can be healing and essential in the grieving process.

Are you looking for an internship? Shunpike has all sorts of opportunities for those that would like to learn more about working in arts administration in a fast-growing nonprofit organization.

We like to work with our interns to design a job description based on their own areas of interest. When you apply, please describe your ideal internship with Shunpike. Here are a few sample ideas to get you started:

• Development Intern: Develop skills in grantwriting, grants calendar assembly, donation management, and fundraising and event planning.
• Programs Intern: Explore Shunpike’s programs and partner arts groups by assisting with contracting, proposal writing, records maintenance, and program evaluation and development.
• Systems Intern: Assist with developing ways to streamline data within the organization and better use existing tools to report and record this data.

Interns will be expected to spend part of their time completing administrative tasks, and part of their time developing their special project for Shunpike. Past projects have included a program evaluation, communications overview, and research on program development.

Here’s what a recent intern had to say about the experience: “Interning at Shunpike was a great experience for me from the start. The knowledgeable staff created an office environment that is both productive and fun. Each member of the team believes in Shunpike’s mission and works tirelessly to achieve it. And, because the office is smaller, everyone has a chance to contribute and be a part of the team. I would definitely recommend this internship to anyone interested in non-profit arts administration. There’s no better place to learn.”

Shunpike has worked with graduate and undergraduate interns, as well as those not currently in a degree program. All should feel welcome to apply!

To apply, send a cover letter with your specific proposal and a recent resume to jobs[at]shunpike.org.

Shunpike is an equal opportunity employer.

Shunpike’s Arts Business Clinic opened in January, and more than 75 arts groups have come in since.

Shunpike’s Clinic consultation sessions are short and inexpensive — $30 for 30 minutes — because smaller arts groups and independent artists rarely have funds to devote to business growth. Sometimes they get stuck and need a trusted resource to get them back on track.

In Arts Business Clinics, Shunpike experts answer key questions -– How do I build a board of directors? What’s the best way for us to fundraise? Should my new arts business be for-profit or nonprofit? -– to help arts groups move forward.

The Arts Business Clinic is a community resource. It only exists because individual donors subsidize the cost to participants. You can help. A $30 gift gets an arts group 30 minutes closer to the next big thing.

Please make a gift today through either our online donation page or facebook cause.
