Accountability & The Arts: Planning Effective Special Events

SEATTLE - The Shunpike is excited to announce the next installment of their successful Accountability & the Arts series. "Planning Effective Special Events" will be held Monday, February 11th at 7pm in the Seattle Center House. This session will offer strategies and techniques for maximizing the raising of funds and fun at special events. It will feature the talented local event-planning team of the Adventure School.

A special event can help an arts group raise funds, introduce people to their work, and bring together crucial stakeholders. They can also be a major drain on finances and time for staff and volunteers. Planning and executing events to maximize their effectiveness is a delicate process.

The Adventure School designs immersive environments, plans dramatic special events, and generally creates adventures in Seattle and elsewhere around the world. Their motto is Semper Ad Extremum (Take it to the Limit Every Time). The founders, Aviva Palmer and Cori Ready, have designed everything from art auctions to holiday parties to annual galas. They've worked with large corporations, non-profit arts organizations, and policy campaigns. The Adventure School is dedicated to original, effective events that capture a message and rally support as well as being downright fun.

The Accountability and the Arts series has been developed in support of The Shunpike's mission to strengthen the Seattle arts community by partnering with small and mid-size arts groups to develop the business tools they need to succeed. The series launched in April 2005 with a public forum on the concept of accountability, and has continued bimonthly ever since.

Accountability and the Arts is sponsored by 4Culture, the Mayor's Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs, and Seattle Center.
